Sunday, February 23rd The Sardine Room revives the age old New York tradition of the Beefsteak Banquet. Originating in the late 19th century, Beefsteaks were a celebration of the working class. Gatherings in rustic taverns or dingy cellars where, sitting on crates or stools, patrons would sing, tell stories, eat steak and drink copious amounts of ale. Debaucherous functions, attendees wore butcher aprons and used the skirt of the apron to wipe the grease off their hands and face. Neither silverware or napkins were allowed. Join us as we bring the merrymaking and revelry of the Beefsteak Banquet to The Sardine Room.
